Property Consultants CB Richard Ellis Maintains Its Ranking Amongst The Top 50 Best Workplaces

Dublin, 19th March 2009 - For the fifth year running, property consultants CB Richard Ellis is officially one of the ‘50 Best Workplaces in Ireland’ according to a detailed assessment by the Great Place to Work® Institute Ireland.

An Tánaiste, Ms. Mary Coughlan, TD congratulated CB Richard Ellis on their achievement, saying “In light of the global economic downturn and the ensuing difficulties for the Irish economy, being listed as one of the “Best Workplaces in Ireland” 2009 is a superb achievement. It is clear that your exceptional commitment to ensuring that the policies implemented and attitudes evident in your organisation have inspired your staff and made it a great place to work. You are an example to other employers and the relationships that have been built in your organisations between management and staff will stand you in good stead in the difficult times ahead.

The challenges facing us are intense and immediate. The quality and intensity of global competition is increasing all the time. Our competitors will continue to work hard to make their business climates and infrastructures more attractive to global investors and many will rely on labour cost advantages. Ireland remains an attractive location for high-end, skill-intensive operations. Yet if we are to continue to prosper then it is pivotal that we take action now in key vital areas that will enable us to safeguard our future economic and social development.

The skills and competencies level of our labour force is one such area. This Government firmly believes that our future success can only be guaranteed by continuing our policy of investing in our education and training systems. We must continue to produce highly educated and skilled individuals. We must ensure that the country has a labour force with the ability to not only meet the needs of enterprises but also more importantly to allow Ireland to quickly respond to emerging opportunities that will present themselves in the future.

In short Ireland must create and develop competitive advantage in terms of the skills and qualifications of our labour force. This will be key to maintaining our success and will allow us to continue to compete in the increasingly competitive global marketplace.
The efforts made by “Best Workplaces in Ireland” challenge us to up our game, and for the reasons I have outlined already, that is more important than ever.”
The Great Place to Work study sets out to identify and recognise the finest employers in Ireland and throughout the European Union.

It’s the views of the employees that count when deciding if a company will make the Irish ‘50 Best Workplaces’ list. A random selection of employees in each participating organisation complete a confidential questionnaire, rating their employers on almost 60 elements covering communication, training & development, pride, work life balance, diversity and teamwork in the workplace. The questionnaire aims to find out what the employees’ views are on the policies and practices that are in place in their organisation. Surveys are returned directly to the Great Place to Work® Institute by each individual employee, therefore ensuring confidentiality – and honesty!

Commenting on the announcement, Guy Hollis, Managing Director at CB Richard Ellis said employee satisfaction and engagement is an important ingredient for business success. “It is no accident that if employees are happy and engaged, the company performs better. The Great Place to Work survey is a valuable gauge of employee satisfaction and being recognised for the fifth year running as one of the Top 50 Best Workplaces in Ireland is something we are really proud of – particularly in the context of what was avery challenging year for our industry. Our difference really is our people and together we aim to understand our client’s needs, respond quickly, deliver innovative results with integrity and have some fun along the way!”
