CBRE Confirm Sale of No. 12a Lower Abbey Street to JD Wetherspoon Plc

Dublin, May 2015 – CBRE have confirmed today that the sale of No. 12A Lower Abbey Street has now completed to the UK pub chain JD Wetherspoon PLC.

The property, which was originally purpose built in 1839 for the Trustee Savings Bank, occupies a high profile location on the western side of Abbey Street within walking distance to the IFSC and Upper O’ Connell Street. The building which extends to c. 584 sq.m. has been restored and refurbished to a high standard whilst retaining many of its original features throughout. The building is located adjacent to multiple office occupiers including the National Lottery, Irish Life and VHI headquarters.

According to the selling agents Niamh Sheahan and Paul McCoy of CBRE “We received strong interest from both investors and owner occupiers considering the building’s city centre location and its potential to be converted to alternative uses to cater for growing demand in the general area”.

JD Wetherspoon’s spokesman Eddie Gershon said “We are delighted to have acquired another site within central Dublin as part of our ongoing expansion. There are no opening dates at present as the site requires planning and licensing consents and we look forward to converting this impressive historic building.”
