Four Star 64-bedroom hotel on extensive grounds overlooking River Shannon

Dublin,19 December 2018 – CBRE Hotels confirm the sale of the Castle Oaks House Hotel Castleconnell Co Limerick. The hotel is being purchased by Pat McDonagh, Supermacs, who is adding to his hotel portfolio, having also recently purchased the Athlone Springs Hotel.

The Castle Oaks House Hotel occupies a superb trading location in the picturesque village of Castleconnell approximately 10 km from the city of Limerick and 40 km from Shannon International Airport.

The attractive riverside village is easily accessible from Limerick, the M7 Motorway interchange and retains its character and charm. The location is also close to the popular tourist area of Killaloe on the shores of nearby Lough Derg.

The thriving city of Limerick, the University of Limerick campus and the National Technology Park at Castletroy are easily accessible on the east side of the city. The city with a population of approximately 95,000 people (Census 2016) is the third largest city in Ireland. The city has established a strong industrial, service and tourist hub and is benefiting from ongoing initiatives including Limerick 2030 Strategic Development tasked to plan and develop key strategic sites in Limerick. Castle Oaks House has all the architectural characteristics that were predominant during the late Georgian period (1780 to 1830). The first known owners of the house were the Rich Family. Lieutenant John S. Rich and his family took up residence there in 1815. Castleconnell in that time was beginning to make its name as a great fishing centre, and the sport of rowing was also a popular pastime among the gentry. In June 1945, the property passed into the hands of the Presentation Sisters

The main building has been sympathetically restored, extended and retains many of its fine Georgian features. The hotel combines modern luxurious and elegant facilities in a relaxing ambience. The adjacent purpose-built Garden Suites, offering flexible accommodation options.

A feature of the property are the landscaped gardens overlooking the River Shannon creating a tranquil setting and an ideal location for hotel guests. The hotel also includes a tennis court and playground area.

The hotel has established itself as a superb wedding venue, known throughout the Mid West region and is expected to host approximately 70 weddings in 2018. The elegant Stradbally Suite, with its unique stained glass windows, parquet dance floor and picturesque garden views can host up to 280 guests. Adjacent to the Banqueting Suite is a private patio area with stunning views of the River Shannon.
